Laser – Not your childhood cat toy!

Laser – Not your childhood cat toy! There are a few therapies that can puzzle people because we can't "feel" them. Ultrasound is one and low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is another. You don't feel a sunburn while it's happening but you sure can feel the effects after the fact! The same goes for LLLT. LLT has revolutionized sports medicine and sports injury treatment over the last 10 years. LLLT has seen widespread use and effectiveness in professional sports. Players from the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, Olympics, US Cycling, runners as well as college and amateur athletes around the world have discovered the benefits of laser therapy. Sports injuries aren't the only things that benefit from LLLT. I've used laser therapy for arthritis, headaches, sinus inflammation, gum inflammation, shingles, TMJ pain, planter fasciitis, low back pain, post surgical wound healing and many other problems. Like any therapy, it's not the end all [...]

So what’s all the bubbly about?

So what’s all the bubbly about? When I was a child, I knew when it was a special occasion. We could have soda!! Birthday parties with root- beer floats, picnics with burgers and a Coke or grape Nehi on the last day of school. We never had soda stocked in our refrigerator. We would have water with dinner, milk or orange juice with breakfast and Kool-aid as an occasional treat. Most of the time we ate at home. Going out to dinner was for Friday night or Sunday brunch and even then, maybe once or twice a month. So what's happened? Mom's have had to enter the work force. We are busier than ever and we have sacrificed home cooked meals for fast food and microwavable dishes that are premade and filled with chemicals. With that trend came the invasion of soda, fattening our national bellies. Don't get me wrong. I like soda too. But [...]

The Monster In Your Bed

The Monster In Your Bed As a child, I was always afraid of the monster under my bed. Little did I know that the day may come when I had to worry about a monster in my bed as well. No I'm not talking about my wife, I'm talking about sleep apnea. The most common form of sleep apnea is obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and it can go undiagnosed for years. OSA is a type of sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing or instances of shallow or infrequent breathing during sleep caused by soft tissues in the back of the throat relaxing and blocking the airway. Each pause in breathing is called an apnea and can last from at least ten seconds to several minutes, and may occur 5 to 30 times or more an hour. Similarly, each abnormally shallow breathing event is called a hypopnea. Each event [...]

Health – The Road “Less Traveled By”

Health - The Road "Less Traveled By" We all know people that have lived well into their 80's and 90's. Some of us may know people that have lived into their 100's. We say, "I sure hope I live that long."  I've heard others say "I hope I live that long, but only if I'm healthy".  So why are some so blessed with health and longevity? Choices.  We all make choices. Some choose to smoke, some don't. Some choose to drink, some don't. Some get regular chiropractic care, some don't. Some exercise, take vitamins, eat whole natural foods, fruits and vegetables. Some watch TV, eat pizza and the only vegetable to pass their lips is smothered in "cheese" sauce. Health is a choice. It is the end result of the thousands of good or bad choices we make everyday. Do our choices guarantee us a healthy life? No. There are no guarantees in life, but that doesn't mean [...]

Are Our Children Being Over Diagnosed with ADHD?

Are Our Children Being Over Diagnosed with ADHD? The morning news was once again reporting that researchers suspect that America's children are being over diagnosed with ADHD and over medicated.  11% or our children are diagnosed with ADHD and 65% of those are on drugs for it!  Are you kidding me!  Kids are expected to spend the whole day in class, in front of a computer, etc. and we wonder why they act up, fidget, lose focus and get distracted. When I was a kid, we had PE and recess everyday. We played, used our imaginations, and burned up excess energy on the playground. Now we drug our children into submission and don't let them play outside. Now our children are fat and unfocused.  How's that working for us? Let's take a stand for the health and well being of our children. If you suspect that your child has behavioral issues, thy [...]

Parents Will Push for Medication, Even If Doc Says Its Not Needed

Parents Will Push for Medication, Even If Doc Says Its Not Needed A recent article I read stated that parents will push physicians to prescribe medicine for the children even if it is not medically necessary. Why do we think that medicine is the answer to every health problem? In the article, If the doctor labeled the child's condition (in this case GERD), and even told the parent that the medication wouldn't benefit the child, the parent was inclined to insist upon the medication anyway. If the doctor didn't label the condition, the parent was less likely to push for medication. Do parents do this because they paid a co-pay and took time off work to take their child to the doctor and they better walk out with something in their hand to show for it? Are we brain washed by Big Pharma to believe that there is a drug for every [...]
